Amylu Apple & Gouda Cheese Chicken Sausage

When we were grilling the steaks the other day, we cooked up some Amylu Apple & Gouda Cheese Chicken Sausages. They come three packs of seven sausages each, so we only grilled one package for the two of us and threw the rest in the fridge for later.

Below is the nutrition information on the label.

I just looked at a package of your typical smoke sausage and a 56g (2 oz) portion has 16 grams of fat versus 5 grams for a slightly larger serving of the chicken sausage. And total calories for the smoked sausage is 190 versus 110 for the chicken sausage. Again, a pretty large difference.

We both were pleased with the flavor profile of the sausages. The apple and cheese flavors were present, but they were not not so over powering you felt like you were eating an apple or a piece of cheese.  Being chicken sausages, the flavor of the meat was a nice change of pace from the typical pork or beef sausage.  We really enjoyed them and we are glad that there are two more packages of them for us to eat. While this grilled wonderfully, we also might try them as an ingredient in a dish.

At 13.99 for three pounds of sausage, these do indeed cost more than your Oscar Meyer wieners, but the  taste, quality and health aspects make these a great value.

I am sorry I don't have a photo of the sausages themselves, but we were so interested in eating them I forgot to take a photo!

  1. Hi! I'm not sure if you're associated with Costco, but I've been looking for Amylu chicken sausages for the past 2-3 weeks and don't see them anymore. I love them! Do you know if they are they discontinued? They now have Amylu chicken meatballs instead, but I prefer the sausages.
    Thanks!

    1. Costco has them now. And they have no nitrates and nitrites like all hot dogs do. I think they are so good that I can't think of using a bun. I mean, would you put filet mignon on a bun!?!?!?!

    2. I haven't seen them for months at Costco. I wish they would sell it again.

    6. I have requested them to carry them again but can not get them to carry what customers want. No longer customer friendly, consider Sam's Club.

    7. Costco does not have them. I was there today. Can't find them at other grocery stores either. Are they quitting them?

    8. I know this is an old thread but since right above me is only a couple months old, thought I'd chime in. These were back at Costco last week! SO GOOD. Now I'm scared they will suddenly disappear, better stock up!

  2. I asked at our local Costco and was told the store would not be carrying them any longer. I put a note in the suggestion box; no response as yet (two weeks). Perhaps if enough people ask the sausages will come back to Costco. I sure hope so. Eileen

  3. I became hooked on the Amylu Mango Chicken Sausage and now it's gone. What's going on? There were only 3 grams of fat and 80 something calories per. Two or three satisfied me for lunch and popping them in the microwave was a really quick way to have a delicious and nutritious hot lunch. Sausage that actually helped me to lose weight. Who knew. I have never seen a product that was this cool and had so many things going for it. I need them. Where are they. Tell me they are coming back? Come on people. Patrick M.

    1. I haven't seen that one but they have chicken burgers at Costco now and I think they are almost as good as the sausages. Would love to try the Mango Sausage.

  5. Yes, I also have been looking for the Amylu Mango Chicken Sausage for the last few weeks. I liked the fact that they were a tasty, healthy, high protein, low carb, low fat meal.

  10. AMYLU SAUSAGES are amazing. Went to buy them during my last visit and they are not there anymore. VERY disappointed! PLEASE PLEASE bring them back. No other chicken sausage compares!

  11. My mom just picked some up at Costco around Christmas time...

  12. Went to stock up on them Saturday 1/23/11. My store has only carried the Apple Gouda ones and I would l ove to try the Mango. They did not have any at all, but had substituted Aidelle chicken sausage. NOT AT ALL THE SAME and I left the store empty-handed. BRING THEM BACK or I won't have a reason to go to Costco.

  13. We, too, thoroughly enjoyed these sausages. Every time I go to my local Costco warehouse, the meat section only has Aidelle, and not Amylu.

    Terribly disappointing.

I keep sending suggestions, so we'll see. Might be a corporate decision.

    I'll try ATK.

  14. I live in Tacoma, WA and was also hooked on Amylu's Chicken Mango Jalapeno sausage. They have been gone since November. I contacted the company that produces them and was told their absence may be temporary. I check Costco weekly, as I hopefully await their return. I've not found anything as healthy and good tasting.

  16. We love them!!! Costco... we're depending on you!!!

  17. Just used their Andouille for a batch of Jambalaya for a party. Big hit! Hope my local Coscto keeps it in stock.

  18. We are also very disappointed at the disappearance of Amylu sausages. No one has mentioned that they are low in sodium (<500mg) as sausages go. Most are over 1000mg. For people with heart problems this is a big health issue.

  19. I'm looking for the Kickin' Cranberry Chicken Meatball with Jalapeno Peppers. Does anyone where to find them? I use to get them at Costco.

  20. I really hope Costco brings AmyLu's Sausages back! My family loves them and I haven't been able to find a replacement my family likes. None of the sausages Costco is carrying right now compare to AmyLu's! Please bring them back!

  23. I wish my local Costco in Lancater, PA would start carrying more variety of the Amylu chicken sausages. They are the best out there and such a great deal in store.

  24. I hope Costco in Bakersfield, California stocks their shelves again with the Cranberry variety of sausages or meatballs for the holidays. If they don't I'm chucking my Costco card!

  25. The apple and gauda now contain pork casing

    ReplyDelete
  26. I just bought the Apple & Gouda Cheese Chicken Sausage at Costco. I found the pork casing to be very tough. I have not tried the previous version. Although they taste good, my kids did not like them because of the casing.

I was going to leave feedbck on their site sausagesbyamylu.com, but apparently the site is down.

    Won't be buying these again.

  27. Costco needs to bring back the Chicken Mango at 85 calories per. Amazing. I miss them and obviously people love them. What's going on. People obviously love them. It bothers me when Coscto isolates itself and won't respond to repeated requests. I took the time to fill out the suggestions. How about giving me a reason.

  29. Bummed because at least at the Costco's in CA, they have been discontinued. I hope they bring them back, because they are delicious. I just peel off the casing, because it is tough. Easy enough!!!

  30. Costco in Southern California has now started carrying the Caprese flavor instead of the apple gouda. Not nearly as good.
Hope they bring back the apple gouda ones soon.

  31. THEY ARE BACK. I just cooked a pack...ate 6 of them before bed last night. Took the other around the back to plug everythng up!

  32. Where are they back? I keep looking and asking but at the Southern California Costco's, they only have the Caprese flavor. Prior poster is right. They aren't nearly as good. There was an Amylu display last weekend at the Costco at the District. They were handing out the Caprese flavor. I asked if they could bring back the Apple Gouda flavor and they said they would love to. Just need Costco to OK it. They said right now, they are only available online. I would love to get them at Costco again. I don't buy the Caprese flavor because my son won't eat them. He loved the Apple Gouda ones. Far healthier than the competition too.

  37. HEY COSTCO, PLEASE BRING BACK THE AMYLU ANDOUILLE CHICKEN SAUSAGE TO THE WAREHOUSES IN THE SOUTHBAY AREA OF CALIFORNIA. TORRANCE, HAWTHORNE, INGLEWOOD, CULVER CITY. SOOOO GOOOOD!. PERFECT FOR MY GUMBO!! MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE SAME SAUSAGE.

  38. Bought the chicken sausages at Costco king of Prussia and noticed some of them had tiny chicken bones pieces in them. Not expecting to bite into something hard when eating sausages!

  39. I was able to buy them all the time at the costcos in the Minneapolis area. They were ALWAYS in stock so I figured the same would be true out here in Portland Oregon. WRONG. Can't find them anywhere. The store clerk said they get them in "occasionally". The only reason I have a Costco card is so I can feed my addiction for AMylu Apple and Gouda Cheese sausage I eat (or used to) one every morning with a waffle. Best meal in the universe. I am sooooo disappointed. I don't know if I can go on.

  40. When we first tried these sausages they were absolutely great. We have been buying them from Costco whenever we see them. We were just there earlier this week and bought some more. They were not fit to eat. The casings were like rubber and we could not swallow them. There were grissly unchewable things within. Very unsatisfactory. I don't know what they changed but it was not for the better.
